Some of PVG Raju's classmates, with whom he got along well, and stayed in touch as friends throughout included Dr. Raja Ramanna, a key player in the Indian nuclear weapon project, and later on, the newspaper baron heir BD Goenka, and Admiral MK Roy who was later to head the Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy. We know about his sporting inclination through the recollections of Admiral Roy who was his classmate in Presidency College in Madras. Admiral Roy says, %u201cWhatever he did, it was with zest and complete involvement%u201d, going on to add, %u201cWith these traits, he took up tennis in Bangalore and played for the University. He soon got bored and took up cricket when he joined presidency college Madras. He had natural style and a good eye which made him a born sportsman%u201d.The cricketers of the colleges of Madras University all vied for the inter-collegiate Duncan Trophy. PVG Raju's contribution helped the Presidency College cricket team win the trophy in successive years. There is also an insight into his character through cricket. He would have %u201cattained excellence in most games whether it be golf, tennis, cricket, snooker, billiards or table tennis%u201d. %u201cHowever,%u201d says Admiral Roy, %u201che is prone to lose 64
