In the MCC's Indian tour of 1933, he captained the side that handed the only defeat to the famed Douglas Jardine led team in the Korukonda Palace. He would go on to captain the Indian team's first tour of England in the much-talked about 1936 series.Post Indian independence he went on to found the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association as well as the Andhra Cricket Association. He became the President of the BCCI in 1954 and also was a radio commentator for the game.Besides cricket he was much talked about for his tiger shoots. He played host to a number of heads of state and international dignitaries in Vizianagaram Bhavan in Benaras, organizing lavish hunts across the surrounding jungles. He had around 400 tiger kills, yet his nephew PVG Raju did not take to killing wildlife for sport. He turned away from hunting and shikars.57
